A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration JA321J performing flight JL-897 from Osaka Kansai (Japan) to Shanghai Pudong (China) with 136 people on board, was climbing out of Osaka when the crew stopped the climb at FL240 due to a hydraulic leak and returned to Osaka for a safe landing on runway 06L about 55 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration JA304J reached Shanghai with a delay of 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after 28 hours on the ground.
