A SAA South African Airways Airbus A340-600, registration ZS-SNG performing flight SA-260 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was climbing out of Johannesburg's runway 21R when the left main gear did not indicate locked in the up position following gear retraction. The crew levelled off at FL150 and entered a hold to troubleshoot, then decided to return to Johannesburg, dumped fuel and landed safely on runway 21L about 80 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 2 hours on the ground and reached Frankfurt with a delay of 3:45 hours.
