An Aeromexico Boeing 787-9, registration XA-ADH performing flight AM-1 from Mexico City (Mexico) to Madrid,SP (Spain), was enroute at FL350 about 100nm northwest of Cancun (Mexico) and 680nm east of Mexico City when the crew decided to return to Mexico City due to an electrical problem. The aircraft climbed to FL360 for the return and landed safely back in Mexico City about 105 minutes after turning around.

A replacement Boeing 787-9 registration XA-ADD reached Madrid with a delay of about 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Mexico for about 5.5 hours, then returned to service.

Passengers reported the crew reported an overheating indication with one of the electrical systems on board.
