A Pegasus Boeing 737-800, registration TC-CPU performing flight PC-2248 from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen to Bodrum (Turkey), was on approach to Bodrum descending through 5000 feet when the aircraft received a lightning strike prompting the crew to divert the aircraft to Izmir climbing to 14000 feet enroute. The aircraft landed safely on Izmir's runway 34R about 25 minutes after aborting the approach to Bodrum.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Izmir for 27.5 hours before returning to service.
