An American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration N9630A performing flight AA-2309 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 140 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL240 about 20nm northwest of St. Louis,MO when the captain decided to divert the aircraft to St. Louis due to the first officer complaining about chest pain. The first officer was taken to a hospital.

The aircraft was able to continue with a replacement first officer and reached Dallas with a delay of 2.5 hours.
