An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N861NN performing flight AA-34 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Newark,NJ (USA), was on final approach to Newark's runway 22L when the aircraft received a bird strike. The crew continued for a safe landing maintaining routine communication until after crossing the parallel runway 22R. The crew then advised they did have a bird strike into the left engine (CFM56).

The FAA reported the aircraft received "unknown" damage.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N858NN performed the return flight, still AA-34.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 23 hours after landing.
