An ASL Airlines Belgium Boeing 747-400, registration OE-IFD performing freight flight 3V-801 from Liege (Belgium) to Shanghai Pudong (China), was climbing through FL180 when the crew declared Mayday, Mayday, Mayday and reported a fire in the cabin. The crew decided to return to Liege where the aircraft landed on runway 22L about 15 minutes after stopping the climb at about FL180. Attending emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke in the cabin, however, needed to cool the landing gear due to overheating brakes, that emitted smoke.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 10 hours after landing back.
