A Sky Regional Airlines Embraer ERJ-175, registration C-FEKS performing flight RS-7642 from Montreal,QC (Canada) to New York La Guardia,NY (USA) with 73 people on board, was on approach to New York when the crew received a slat fault message associated with a stick shaker activation, declared emergency and stopped the descent at 5000 feet. The crew subsequently decided to return to Montreal to utilize the longer runway available and superior weather conditions. The aircraft climbed to FL270 for the return and performed a safe landing on Montreal's runway 06L at a higher than normal speed. After roll out the crew detected high temperature on the right hand brakes and stopped the aircraft on the runway.

The Canadian TSB reported emergency services cooled the brakes with fans, the aircraft was able to taxi to the apron about 45 minutes after landing.
