A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration JA822J performing flight JL-69 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Osaka (Japan), was enroute at FL340 about 100nm west of San Francisco,CA (USA) when the crew entered a hold reporting electrical problems. The aircraft subsequently dumped fuel and returned to Los Angeles for a safe landing about 100 minutes after entering the first hold.

The aircraft remained on the ground for 4 hours, then departed again and reached Osaka with a delay of 6.5 hours.

A passenger reported the crew announced a minor electrical problem as cause of their return to Los Angeles.
