An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N544UW performing flight AA-797 from Philadelphia,PA to Los Angeles,CA (USA), was in the climb out of Philadelphia's runway 27L when a bird impacted the aircraft. Thew crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet, burned off fuel and returned to Philadelphia for a safe landing on runway 27L about 2:11 hours after departure.

The FAA reported the aircraft sustained unknown damage to fuselage and flap track. The occurrence was rated an incident.
