A LATAM Brasil Airbus A321-200, registration PT-XPA performing flight JJ-3585 from Rio Branco,AC to Brasilia,DF (Brazil), departed Rio Branco's runway 06 when a bird impacted the aircraft prompting the crew to stop the climb at 7000 feet and return to Rio Branco for a safe landing on runway 06 about 22 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported there was an strange noise just when the aircraft rotated for departure and continued, flight attendants informed the flight deck notifying the flight crew there had been sparks off an engine (CFM56). The crew announced they had seen birds on departure and they were returning to Rio Branco.

The airline confirmed a bird strike, however, there had been no engine anomaly. The passengers were rebooked onto replacement flight JJ-9020.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration PT-MXH reached Brasilia as flight JJ-9020 with a delay of 16:15 hours.
