An Expressjet Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N611QX performing flight EV-2856/AA-2856 from Baton Rouge,LA to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 53 passengers and 4 crew, was descending towards Dallas when the crew reported they received an engine oil low quantity followed by an engine oil high temperature indication and had reduced the engine to idle thrust advising a precautionary shut down of the engine was being considered. About 5 minutes later the crew advised they had secured (shut down) the engine. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Dallas Ft. Worth's runway 17C about 20 minutes later.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Dallas for about 51 hours before returning to service.
