The airport and runway needed to be closed for about two hours until the aircraft could be moved off the runway.
The airline confirmed the aircraft burst its tyres as it landed at Nairobi and stopped on the runway. All passengers disembarked onto the runway and were taken to the terminal.
On Sep 25th 2016 The Aviation Herald received information that upon extending the landing gear the crew received messages "BRK LH FAULT" and "BRK RH FAULT" together with indications the left and right hand outboard brakes pressure pulse tests (performed during gear extension) had failed. Subsequently the crew felt the brakes were not working and applied emergency brakes which resulted in all four main tyres being burst and debris damaging the right hand main gear door. According to first assessment of flight data recordings it was further found that autobrakes had not been engaged - both inboard brakes would have worked normally on both autobrakes and pedal brakes -, there was no attempt to use the pedal brakes until the emergency brakes were applied.
