A passenger reported there was an unusual odour in the cabin, too.
A replacement McDonnell Douglas MD-83 registration N409NV reached Elmira with a delay of 7.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 14 hours before positioning back to Saint Petersburg, however has not yet resumed service about 43 hours after landing in Baltimore.
