A Thomson Airways Boeing 787-800, registration G-TUIA performing flight BY-147 (dep Jun 8th) from Orlando Sanford,FL (USA) to Manchester,EN (UK), was on approach to Manchester maintaining FL070 when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (GEnx) down. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Manchester's runway 23R about 13 minutes later.

A passenger reported the crew announced only after landing they needed to shut an engine down and apologized for not telling earlier to not cause passengers to freak out. The passenger observed maintenance personnel working on the left hand engine.

On Jun 10th 2017 The Aviation Herald received information, that the crew received an engine fire indication, shut the engine down and discharged both fire bottles. Emergency services and maintenance did not find any evidence of fire however, a faulty fire detector loop was identified and replaced, the fire bottles were replaced, too.
