A Loganair Saab 340B, registration G-LGNE performing flight BE-6994 from Shetland Islands Sumburgh,SC to Edinburgh,SC (UK), was on approach to Edinburgh at about 4000 feet when the crew spotted a drone and conducted an evasive maneouver managing to avoid the drone. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Edinburgh's runway 06 about 5 minutes later.

The airline reported the crew was forced to perform an evasive maneouver in order to avoid the drone, which was was flying about 60-100 feet (20-30 meters) from the aircraft at about 4000 feet of altitude. While aircraft are designed to withstand bird strikes, the hard material of a drone is a different matter. Flying drones into the path of an aircraft is irresponsible.
