A Piedmont de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N330EN performing PDT-4868/AA-4868 from Islip,NY to Philadelphia,PA (USA) with 40 passengers and 3 crew, was climbing out of Islip's MacArthur Airport when smoke developed in the cockpit prompting the crew to stop the climb at 12,000 feet and return to Islip for a safe landing about 30 minutes after departure.

The airline reported a light bulb in the cockpit burned out and started to smoke. The crew decided to return out of abundance of caution. The issue was quickly fixed and the aircraft departed again.

The aircraft reached Philadelphia with a delay of 2:40 hours.
