A Taban Air Boeing 737-400, registration EP-TBJ performing flight HH-6243 from Mashhad to Ardabil (Iran) with 163 people on board, landed on Ardabil's runway 33 at 10:03L (05:33Z) but came to a stop on the runway with the right hand main gear collapsed. One passenger received minor injuries during the evacuation, the aircraft received substantial damage.

On Jan 27th 2018 Iran's CAO released their final report in Persian concluding the probable causes of the accident were:

The main cause of the accident is a technical failure in the shimmy damper of the right main landing gear.

Contributing factors were:

- failure to comply with operational limitations by the pilot
- lack of technical oversight and non-compliance with manufacturer's recommendations
- design weakness in the landing gear, in particular shimmy damper system and metallurgy causing a weak torsion link piece
- inefficiency of quality control within maintenance of Taban Airlines

The CAO reported the aircraft had been dispatched to cruise at FL280 in non-RVSM airspace, the crew however climbed the aircraft to FL300. The crew performed an ILS approach to runway 33 for an overweight landing (as result of the lesser fuel burn than anticipated during cruise), the winds were reported from 200 degrees at 12 knots. The aircraft crossed the final approach fix at 216 KIAS (should be crossed at or below 185 KIAS), the EGPWS sounded "Sink Rate" aural warnings several times during the final approach, the aircraft crossed the runway threshold still at a speed higher than Vapp at a crab angle of 8 degrees due to crosswind, the aircraft touched down about 830 meters past the runway threshold at about 1600 fpm rate of descent and about 2.06G, the pilot input on the rudder pedals caused shimmy vibrations, the right hand main gear's shimmy damper failed to dampen the vibrations, during the roll out the torsion link fractured as result of the vibrations causing the right main gear strut to fold. The aircraft continued for another 1450 meters on left main gear and right engine pod until the aircraft came to a stop on the runway. The aircraft was evacuated, one passenger received a minor injury as result of the evacuation.

The CAO reported that there had been similiar occurrences prior to this accident, Boeing therefore had released a safety letter recommending non-mandatory inspections.
