An Air Georgian Canadair CRJ-100, registration C-FWRR performing flight ZX-7350 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Baltimore,MD (USA) with 32 people on board, was climbing out of Toronto when a flight attendant saw smoke in the lavatory, at the same time the smoke detector activated. The flight attendant donned a mask and discharged a fire extinguisher into the lavatory. The crew declared emergency, stopped the climb at 6000 feet and returned to Toronto for a safe landing about 15 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported that maintenance performed an extensive investigation that ultimately identified the coalescer filter bags on the air conditioning packs as source. The filter bags were replaced, ground runs revealed no further issues and the aircraft was returned to service.

The aircraft resumed service about 23 hours after landing.
