A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-900, registration G-VYUM performing flight VS-19 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 155 people on board, was enroute at FL380 over the Atlantic Ocean (Labrador Sea) about 320nm north of Goose Bay,NL (Canada), when the crew received a low engine oil quantity and a low engine oil pressure indication for the left hand engine (Trent 1000). The crew reduced the engine thrust, descended the aircraft to FL240 and decided to divert to Boston,MA (USA). When the oil indications decreased further the crew declared PAN, reduced the engine to idle thrust and decided to divert to Goose Bay where the aircraft landed safely about 100 minutes after leaving FL380.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found a fractured engine oil feed pipe on the left hand engine.
