An Austrian Airlines Fokker 70, registration OE-LFJ performing flight OS-597 from Vienna (Austria) to Krakow (Poland), was descending towards Krakow when the crew requested to level off at FL180 and enter a hold, they had a communication problem and were considering whether to return to Vienna. The crew subsequently advised they had a malfunction of their radio system and wanted to return to Vienna for operational reasons. The aircraft climbed to FL260 for the return and landed safely in Vienna about 45 minutes after stopping the descent at FL180.

A replacement Fokker 100 registration OE-LVE reached Krakow with a delay of 3:20 hours.

On Sep 8th 2016 the airline reported there was an issue with the radio control panel, due to the lack of maintenance available in Krakow the aircraft returned to Vienna.

The occurrence aircraft resumed service after about 16 hours on the ground in Vienna.
