A United Boeing 737-900, registration N69838 performing flight UA-1904 from Denver,CO to Orlando,FL (USA), was enroute at FL310 when the aircraft encountered several areas of turbulence prompting the flight crew to descend to FL270 and instruct cabin crew to stop service and be seated. The aircraft encounted smooth air for several minutes prompting the flight crew to release the cabin crew to work with the instruction to not use trolleys. About 5 minutes later, enroute about 46nm northwest of Wichita's Mid Continent Airport,KS (USA) still at FL270, the aircraft encountered moderate to severe turbulence causing a serious injury (tibia plateau fracture) to one flight attendant and minor injuries to another flight attendant, both injured having worked in the aft galley and both continued their duties until landing in Orlando. The two injured flight attendants were taken to hospital in Orlando.

On Aug 25th 2016 the NTSB released their brief final report concluding the probable cause of the accident was:

An inadvertent encounter with clear air turbulence resulting in a serious injury to a flight attendant
