A Capital Airlines (formerly known as Air Guilin) Airbus A319-100, registration B-6417 performing flight GT-1019 from Guilin to Jinan (China), was climbing out of Guilin when the crew stopped the climb at 7500 meters (FL246) due to problems with the right hand engine and continued towards Jinan. While on final approach to Jinan descending through 1500 meters the right hand engine failed, the crew shut the engine down and continued for a safe landing in Jinan about 6 minutes after the engine failure.

During the climb the crew received compressor vane as well as Channel A and B vane actuator EEC2 fault indications. On final approach the engine stalled resulting in EGT exceeding limits causing the crew to shut the engine down.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Jinan about 35 hours after landing.

The airline needed to cancel a number of flights, including the return flight and flights the following day, as result of the incident.
