A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N712TW performing flight DL-97 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Pittsburgh,PA (USA), was climbing through FL120 out of Roissy's runway 27L when the crew stopped the climb reporting the failure of the right hand engine (PW2037), levelled off and returned to Paris for a safe landing on Roissy's Charles de Gaulle Airport's runway 27L about 30 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported the right hand engine emitted a series of loud bangs, a burning smell developed in the cabin.

The flight was cancelled.

The right hand engine is going to be replaced.
