A Calm Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-200, registration C-FULE performing flight MO-8670 from Island Lake,MB to Thompson,MB (Canada) with 2 crew, was climbing through 12,000 feet about 20nm northwest of of Island Lake when the crew believed the left hand engine (PW124) had flamed out, performed the memory items and subsequent checklists to shut the engine down and declared emergency. The crew decided to continue the flight to Thompson where the aircraft landed safely about 35 minutes later. The aircraft was towed to the apron.

The Canadian TSB reported that initial information suggests the left hand engine torque was at 111% and the left hand propeller's rpm at 43% at the time of the engine shut down. The operator is investigating.
