A Jetstar Airbus A321-200, registration VH-VWX performing flight JQ-517 from Sydney,NS to Melbourne,VI (Australia), was climbing out of Sydney's runway 16R when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet reporting an unusual odour on board and requested to join a right hand downwind to return to Sydney. The aircraft landed safely on runway 16R about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline confirmed the aircraft returned to Sydney following an unusual odour in the rear cabin. The aircraft is now being examined, th passengers are being taken to Melbourne on another aircraft.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration VH-VFV reached Melbourne with a delay of 4.5 hours.
