A Flybe de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration G-JECP performing flight BE-1285 from Inverness,SC (UK) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) with 58 passengers, was climbing out of Inverness when the left hand engine emitted a loud bang prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Inverness for a safe landing about 30 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers rebooked onto other flights.

The airline confirmed the #1 engine suffered a technical malfunction prompting the crew to shut the engine down as a safety precaution.
