A Fedex Federal Express Airbus A300-600, registration N656FE performing flight FX-139 from Vancouver,BC (Canada) to Memphis,TN (USA), was climbing out of Vancouver about 50nm east of Vancouver when the crew stopped the climb at FL180 reporting serious electrical problems and decided to return to Vancouver. The crew advised that the #2 generator had failed, a reset was unsuccessful, the APU was started but immediately dropped off again also with a generator failure. When a reset of the APU generator was attempted the FADEC failed. The engines were reverted to alternate mode and the aircraft landed safely back on Vancouver's runway 08R about 30 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported the crew received a "GEN 2 FAULT" indication, a reset was unsuccessful, the APU was started but the generator dropped immediately offline again with the message "APU GEN FAULT". A reset of the APU generator was attempted however resulted in the message "FADEC FAULT". The engines were operated in alternate mode for a safe return. Maintenance replaced the #2 generator control unit, completed a functional test and an engine run, the aircraft was returned to service.

The occurrence remained on the ground for almost 5 hours, then departed again and reached Memphis with a delay of 5:20 hours.
