A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800, registration HL8033 performing flight 7C-3402 from Seoul (South Korea) to Saipan,MP (USA) with 131 people on board, was enroute at FL370 about 300nm southwest of Iwo Jima (Japan) when the right hand engine (CFM56) developed severe vibrations prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft diverted to Iwo Jima for a safe landing at the Iwo Jima Airbase (Iwoto Airport) about one hour later.

Japan's Ministry of Transport confirmed the right hand engine was shut down following severe vibrations.
