An Easyjet Switzerland Airbus A320-200, registration HB-JZX performing flight U2-1003 from Basel/Mulhouse (Switzerland/France) to Nice (France), was taxiing for departure when smoke was observed from the right hand engine (CFM56). The aircraft lined up runway 15 and initiated the departure roll, but rejected takeoff and vacated the runway at taxiway F about 2000 meters down the runway. The aircraft returned to the apron.

A replacement A320-200 registration HB-JXD reached Nice with a delay of 90 minutes.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 5 hours after the rejected takeoff.

A ground observer reported there was smoke from the right hand engine when the aircraft taxied out for departure, the aircraft initiated the departure roll but rejected takeoff and returned to the apron.
