A Mesa Airlines Canadair CRJ-700, registration N503MJ performing flight YV-2570 from Minneapolis,MN to Washington Dulles,DC (USA) with just 4 crew on board, was enroute at FL410 about 60nm east of Madison,WI (USA) when the crew initiated an emergency descent descending through 10,000 feet about 8 minutes later (average rate of descent 3875fpm) and diverted to Madison. Approach initially vectored the aircraft for runway 21, then advised they had told tower runway 18 accidentally and asked whether they could switch to runway 18, the crew agreed. The aircraft landed safely on runway 18 about 40 minutes after leaving FL410.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 5.5 hours, then continued the flight at 10,000 feet and reached Washington with a total delay of 8 hours.
