A Korean Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration HL7533 performing flight KE-2707 from Seoul Gimpo (South Korea) to Tokyo Haneda (Japan) with 338 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 270nm northwest of Osaka (Japan) when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (PW4098) down and decided to divert to Osaka's Kansai Airport, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 24R about 45 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 747-400 registration HL7498 was dispatched to Osaka and reached Tokyo with a delay of 6:15 hours.

Japan's Ministry of Transport reported the aircraft experienced the failure of the right hand engine and landed with only the left hand engine operating.
