A United Boeing 757-300, registration N57857 performing flight UA-717 from Boston,MA to Los Angeles,CA (USA), was enroute at FL340 about 300nm northeast of El Paso,TX (USA) when the crew descended the aircraft to FL280 and subsequently decided to divert to El Paso reported a little engine (RB211) problem. The crew subsequently advised that the engine problem was solved, however, they continued to El Paso as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely on El Paso's runway 22 about one hour after leaving FL340.

A replacement Boeing 757-300 registration N78866 reached Los Angeles with a delay of 7:20 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in El Paso about 10 hours after landing.
