A Gol Linhas Aereas Boeing 737-800, registration PR-GXE performing flight G3-1253 from Teresina,PI to Brasilia,DF (Brazil), was climbing out of Teresina when the crew stopped the climb at FL220 due to engine (CFM56) problems and returned to Teresina for a safe landing about 40 minutes after departure.

The airline reported one of the engines suffered vibrations prompting the commander to return to Teresina as a precaution.

Passengers reported a loud bang and streaks of flame from the engine.
