An Alitalia Airbus A321-100, registration EI-IXV performing flight AZ-812 from Rome Fiumicino (Italy) to Tel Aviv (Israel) with 119 passengers, was climbing out of Fiumicino's runway 25 when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet reporting an overheating engine (CFM56) and returned to Fiumicino for a safe landing on runway 16R about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement A321-100 registration I-BIXK reached Tel Aviv with a delay of 4 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 30 hours after landing.
