A Canadian North Boeing 737-300, registration C-GCNW performing flight 5T-1748 from Calgary,AB to Fort McMurray,AB (Canada) with 134 people on board, was climbing through 500-600 feet out of Calgary's runway 35L when the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested a number of birds. The crew shut the engine down, burned off fuel and returned to Calgary for a safe landing on runway 35R about 80 minutes after departure.

NAV Canada reported runway 35L was closed for over an hour until the debris was cleaned up.

The Canadian TSB reported the left hand engine ingested a number of geese resulting in serious engine vibrations and torching until the crew shut the engine down and returned to Calgary for a single engine landing on runway 35R.
