A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration TC-JYD performing flight TK-679 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Yaounde (Cameroon), was enroute at FL340 about 150nm southeast of Tunis (Tunisia) when the crew decided to divert to Tunis reporting the failure of the fuel pump feeding the auxiliary tank to the main tank. The aircraft burned off fuel and landed safely on Tunis' runway 01 about 90 minutes after leaving FL340.

The aircraft, that was scheduled to fly the round trip TK-679 Istanbul-Yaounde-Douala-Istanbul remained on the ground for about 2 hours, then departed Tunis for its second destination Douala (Cameroon), continued to Yaounde reaching Yaounde with a delay of 5:15 hours and returned to Istanbul arriving with a delay of 3 hours.
