A Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N509NK performing flight NK-310 from Los Angeles,CA to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA), was enroute at FL370 about 40nm north of Houston,TX when the crew decided to divert to Houston's Intercontinental Airport due to a male passenger (86), who had become more and more disruptive and disobeyed crew instructions. The aircraft landed safely on Houston's runway 27 about 20 minutes later, the unruly passenger was taken into custody by police.

The aircraft departed Houston after 14:45 hours on the ground and reached Fort Lauderdale as flight NK-8509 with a delay of 15:45 hours.

The airline did not explain what caused the delay in Houston but said they would fully refund all passengers.

Police reported the blind man (86) spoke only French and had become increasingly frightened until he started to swing at other passengers.
