An Emirates Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration A6-EKX performing flight EK-724 from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was climbing out of Addis Ababa when the crew reported they received a bird strike into the right hand engine (Trent 772) immediately after becoming airborne. The crew stopped the climb, shut the engine down and returned to Addis Ababa for a safe landing about 30 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the crew announced they had received a bird strike into the right hand engine, the engine failed and was shut down.

The occurrence aircraft was able to depart for the return flight as EK-724D on Sep 27th and reached Dubai with a delay of 53 hours, but is still on the ground in Dubai 12 hours after landing.
