A Porter Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GKQF performing flight PD-274 from Halifax,NS to Ottawa,ON (Canada), had just levelled off at FL240 after climbing out of Halifax when the crew inadvertently placed both engine condition levers into the start/feather position. The propeller electronic control interpreted this as a fault however and dropped offline resulting in both propellers going into over-speed. The crew applied the related checklists and returned to Halifax for a safe landing. The aircraft was shut down on the parallel taxiway and towed to the apron.

A replacement Dash 8-400 reached Ottawa with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance cleared the Propeller Electronic Control Faults, cleared the engines and returned the aircraft to service.
