An Air Canada Airbus A320-200, registration C-FPWD performing flight AC-270 from Winnipeg,MB to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 97 people on board, was climbing through FL310 out of Winnipeg when the green hydraulic system failed. The crew stopped the climb, worked the related checklists, declared PAN, advised they had no nose wheel steering and returned to Winnipeg for a safe landing on runway 36, stopped on the runway and was towed to the apron. The runway needed to be cleaned from leaked hydraulic fluid.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found a chafed hydraulic line.
