A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300, registration D-AIFF performing flight LH-443 (dep Jul 16th) from Detroit,MI (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was descending towards Frankfurt about 15 minutes prior to estimated landing when the aircraft was struck by lightning causing passengers to see a large flash and hearing a loud bang. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Frankfurt's runway 25C.

The aircraft was removed from service due to a number of lightning entry and exit burn marks.
