The aircraft suffered a leaking brakes line and could not immediately continue the flight forcing the remainder of the flight to be postponed. The passengers were taken to the terminal.
The airline reported hotels were unavailable in the area of Midland/Odessa so that the passengers had to be taken to the terminals and were provided with meals, beverages, pillows and blankets.
The aircraft was repaired and was able to continue the flight as UA-1762 the following day and reached Los Angeles with a delay of 16 hours.
Passengers complained however about the airline being unattentative, not providing accomodation, not providing food for several hours until finally pizzas were delivered upon the personal initiative of a pair of fellow passengers.
The hospital reported the patient died in the morning of Jul 3rd.
