A Meridiana McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration I-SMEP performing flight IG-1657 from Cagliari to Bologna (Italy) with 160 people, was climbing out of Cagliari when the crew received an engine (JT8D) oil high temperature warning and decided to divert to Olbia for a safe landing.

A replacement MD-82 registration I-SMER reached Bologna with a delay of 5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft was able to resume service on Jun 1st after about 52 hours on the ground.
