Transat B738 at Montego Bay on May 9th 2015, galley oven on hot strike

An Air Transat Boeing 737-800, registration C-GTQG performing TS-548 from Moncton,NB (Canada) to Montego Bay (Jamaica) with no passengers and 6 crew, was on approach to Montego Bay's runway 07 about 5nm before intercepting the localizer when an oven in the forward galley began to emit dense smoke. The flight crew declared emergency, flight and cabin crew worked the related checklists, the aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 07 a few minutes later. By the time the aircraft touched down the smoke had dissipated and the crew taxied the aircraft to the apron.

The Canadian TSB reported an internal fault of the oven was identified as cause of the smoke.

The aircraft was able to depart for the return flight TS-549 on time.
