On Jun 1st 2015 Norway's Statens Haverikommisjon for Transport (SHT, AIBN) reported the aircraft was unable to stop before the last exit of shortened and slippery runway 01L and came to a stop on the paved surface just north of last exit A9. The aircraft sustained minor damage due to collision with runway light fixtures but was able to taxi to the apron on own power. The runway had been shortened due to resurfacing. The AIBN opened an investigation into the incident.
On Apr 14th 2016 the AIBN released their final report in Norwegian with English Summary concluding the probable causes of the incident were:
It is the AIBN’s view that multiple factors contributed to the fact that SAS4425 was unable to stop before the runway end. The flight crew decided to land with a landing configuration not suitable for the actual weather and runway conditions, in addition to late engagement of full «thrust reversers» after landing.
Several crew on previous flights had reported very slippery conditions on the last part of the runway. A landing ahead of the investigated landing also experienced trouble with achieving sufficient deceleration. This landing was performed with optimum landing configuration and technic.
The airport operator had not, to a sufficient extent, assessed the risk of the combination of shortened runway and poor friction during precipitation. In this case, these factors in addition to tailwind condition resulted in reduced safety margins.
The runway had been shortened from 3600 to 1928 meters, the last 300 meters consisted of concrete. A NOTAM indicated the runway was slippery when wet. The aircraft passed 1000 and 500 feet AGL matching stabilized approach criteria, however, was unable to achieve sufficient deceleration after touch down and came to a stop 50 meters past the runway end in the runway end safety area. The aircraft sustained minor damage as result of collision with runway light fixtures.
