Transasia AT72 near Taipei on May 21st 2015, engine failure

A Transasia Airways Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A (-500), registration B-22806 performing flight GE-5042 from Makung to Taipei Songshan (Taiwan), was enroute at FL150 about 70nm into the 140nm flight when the left hand engine (PW127) flamed out and failed. The crew descended the aircraft to FL080, managed to restart the engine and continued for a safe landing at Taipei's Songshan Airport at 12:58L (04:58Z).

The aircraft is still on the ground at Songshan Airport, the airline cancelled a number of flights in the afternoon as result.

Taiwan's media identify an ATR-72-500 performing flight GE-504 arriving in Songshan at 12:58L. Radar data identify GE-504 was flown by B-22818 (ATR-72-600) and arrived at 11:58L, the aircraft continued service departing Songshan Airport again 45 minutes after landing.

Transasia reported the left hand engine suddenly failed enroute, the crew followed standard operating procedures and was able to restart the engine. The aircraft continued to Taipei's Songshan Airport on both engines.

Taiwan's ASC reported the engine had been installed as new on the aircraft in Oct 2014 and had since accumulated 1560 flight hours. An investigation has been opened.
