A passenger reported that the aircraft appeared to be taxiing for departure at a rather high speed and was turning around on the runway still at a rather high speed when the aircraft shuddered and was brought to a rapid stop. The crew announced that they had hit a "soft spot" and needed to wait for a tug. The aircraft subsequently returned to the apron, the flight on a replacement aircraft needed to divert to Hong Kong due to weather and reached Shanghai with a delay of approximately 12 hours.
The airline reported: "The assigned aircraft did not veer off the paved surface of the runway. During taxi, the aircraft hit a soft spot along the NAIA runway and had to be towed back to the bay. As the aircraft was still turning and not yet accelerating for takeoff, its movement was at a controlled speed."
A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration RP-C3261 departed Manila with a delay of 3 hours, but aborted the approach to Shanghai at FL260 due to weather (low visibility procedures were in effect) and diverted to Hong Kong (China). The aircraft departed Hong Kong after about 6.5 hours on the ground and reached Shanghai with a total delay of 12 hours.
