A number of aircraft diverted to other airports. A passenger of an aircraft diverting reported their captain informed them about an aircraft blocking the runway in Luton following a runway overrun and spillage on the runway. Their aircraft was able to position to Luton Airport later and reached their destination with a delay of just over 2 hours.
The airport reported the crew reported some technical issues and returned to Luton for a safe landing.
The airline did initially not comment, later confirmed the aircraft returned because of a technical problem, upon The Aviation Herald confronting the airline with information available and asking for type of leakage (hydraulics, oil, ...) and further details chose to not follow up.
On Jul 11th the French BEA reported the aircraft returned to London Luton Airport on one engine for a landing on runway 26. During roll out the aircraft veered off the runway leaving the marked boundary of the runway temporarily before returning onto the runway and coming to stop within the runway boundaries. The British AAIB rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
The British AAIB did not respond to inquiries by The Aviation Herald submitted since Jun 26th 2012.
