An Etihad Airbus A330-200, registration A6-EYG performing flight EY-45 from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Dublin (Ireland), was enroute at FL380 about 75nm south of Trabzon (Turkey) when the crew descended the aircraft to FL370 to return to Abu Dhabi. The aircraft later climbed to FL390 enroute to Abu Dhabi and landed safely back in Abu Dhabi about 3 hours after turning around.

A few media report, based on the report of a self proclaimed aviation news service, that the aircraft suffered an engine failure (later toning down to engine problem). That info of an engine failure had been tweeted by an unverified source about an hour prior to these "news" and was taken over obviously without any cross check.

The airline confirmed a technical problem prompted the return to Abu Dhabi.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration A6-EYN reached Dublin with a delay of 10 hours.
